Filed Under News | Leave a Comment
Please excuse me if the material is slightly long or beyond the scope of MCAT. But, I think, this should summarize most of eukaryotic transcription. For the purposes of this post, I’m only going to summarize RNA pol II (mRNA synthesis) mediated transcription. RNA pol I regulates rRNA synthesis and Pol III regulates 5s RNA and tRNA synthesis.
The mechanism of gene transcription by RNA pol II follows 3 general steps, initiation, Read more

When Should I Register for the Usmle ?
Filed Under News | Leave a Comment
Although there are no deadlines for registering for Step 1, you should plan to register at least six months ahead of your desired test date. For most U.S. medical students, the desired testing window is in June, since most medical school curricula for the second year end in May or June. Thus, U.S. medical students should Read more

Should I be writing a detailed reason for each question I got wrong in a notebook, so that I can go over it later?
Filed Under News | Leave a Comment
jmugele: I would not revisit the ones I got right. Instead, as I’m taking a test, I’ll mark the ones I’m guessing on or unsure of (I wouldn’t worry about keeping track of time on a test until late in the studying process). That way, even if I get them right, I can still go study them. What I liked to do after a test was immediately study each wrong answer or marked answer to better understand it. Then, I would also keep Read more
